In Memoriam
I lost my best friend in August of this year.  At the ripe old age of 44, Earl crossed the Rainbow Bridge.  He was a rescue, and in his prior life he had been a logging horse.  When he was no longer useful he was tossed aside like garbage.  I found him in a deplorable state and in good conscience could not leave.  I purchased him to bring back to my barn with full intention of having him humanely euthanized, well, that was over 20 years ago, and in that time he became not only part of my family but part of my heart.   My favorite time of the day was always feeding time, although in the end he was old and his body was starting to sway and swagger, is all I would have to do was holler his name and he would pick up his head and trot to me as fast as his feet would move.  Some of my fondest memories were  lying across his back, reading a book as he was down and napping in the field.   He was a kind and gentle soul and could have taught a few people a thing or two about life.
He passed, having a massive heart attack as he was trotting in from the field for dinner.  I could not have asked God for him to go in a more peaceful manner, and I thank Him everyday for giving me the time we had together.  Earl was a wonderful inspiration, and a once in a lifetime horse.
Rest in peace old friend, I love you and am confident we will be together again one day !
